Ruginoasa Abyss

The Ruginoasa Abyss is a huge gullet with rust-coloured clefts. It was formed by erosion heavy, extremely active deposits of quartzites, sandstones and red clays. It is the wound of the mountain, erosion is still working, enlarging the measures of the huge hall.

Nowadays it is 600m wide and more than 100m deep. Its walls have lurched, leading towards the middle part of the hall, where the Seacă Valley can be found with very narrow parts, which are passable only for alpinists. On the other side of the 4km long abyss we can find the Flora meadow, the white cliffs in the faraway are the limestones of Galbena.

Access:

From the Vârtop saddle we can get there on the yellow stripe. The blaze starts 10 min away from the saddle, from a huge notice board. Here we leave the road, go across the brook and climbing 40 minutes to the edge of a clearing, where we can see the shape of a saddle. As soon as we get to it, we can see the sight of Ruginoasa Abyss at our feet. We go back the same where we came, on the yellow stripe mark.
