Zalău, Reformed church

The history of Zalău church begins somewhere in XII-XIII century. Initially it was a catholic church, later transforming into a reformed one. The city and the church were affected as well by the often passing of military troops. In 1703 the city was robbed and burnt by the royal troops while they were withdrawing to Simleul Silvaliei. In 1712 the church was rebuilt from its foundation only the sanctuary was kept. As a result of decreasing the parishioners' number, in 1780 a side nave was added, in 1794 the tower is demolished, a one of 38 m was built again, finalized in 1797, and in 1885 the chorus is added. The church is closed in 1903, being considered dangerous.

In 1904 the nave is demolished only the tower was kept. In autumn of 1906 in the new church the first service is taking place, 1500 seats, with three naves of the same sizes and a chorus which follows its entire circumference. The organ placed on the west side was built by Országh Sánor in 1906. The clock from the tower fixed in the same period still functions. On the interior wall the emblem of the city being flanked by The Kis și Sarak, Száva și Bikfavis can be seen. Theses families probably had an essential role in the church construction in XVIII century.
