The Palace of Parliament, first called the People's House, was built in Nicholas Ceausescu's time after the 1977 earthquake. The yard began with the demolition of more than 7 km from the old center of the capital. About 100,000 people were involved in the works.

About 20,000 workers worked continuously, three shifts a day. Between 1984 and 1990, 12,000 soldiers worked here. The best construction specialists were posted to Bucharest, families remaining for weeks alone. In December 1989, the building was 60% finished.

The works continued between 1992 and 1996, but have not been finalized until now. They were used: 1000000mc demolition, 550000t of cement, 700000t of steel, 2000000t of sand, 1000t of basalt, 900000mc of wood, 3500t of crystal, 200000mc of glass, 3500mp of leather.

They were mounted 2800 chandeliers and 220000 square feet of carpets. The building's dimensions are: length - 270m, width - 245m, height - 84m (over elevation 0), depth, below ground level - 16m, ground surface - 73615mp and contains around 1000 rooms.

It is the most controversial building in Romania. If during Communism the people considered it a product of the leader's megalomania, today they pride themselves on this 330,000 sq m building, being the largest building in Europe and the second in the world after the Pentagon.

He also arrived in the Book of Records, the world's number one spot for administrative buildings for civilian use. At the same time, it is the world's toughest and most expensive administrative building. Since 1993 he has been hosting the Chamber of Deputies, and since 1994 the International Conference Center. In 2004, the new Chamber of the Senate was inaugurated. Here too, the Legislative Council and the Constitutional Court are based. Parliament Palace is open to visitors. Tour guides are available in Romanian, English, Spanish, Italian and French.
