Delta, since 1991 part of the UNESCO World Heritage, covers an area of 3446 sq km, which is 2540kmp Romania. Thanks to the 67 million tons of sediments transported annually by the Danube, the delta increases each year by approximately 40 sqm.

The river reached Pătlăgeanca bifurcate in Chilia branch north and Tulcea arm. At the Ismail Ceatal, the Tulcea arm is split into the Sulina arm and the Sfântu Gheorghe arm. The Chilia arm (120 km, 39m deep) forms the border with Ukraine and carries 60% of the volume of the Danube. The Sulina arm (64km and 18m deep) carries 18% of the volume of the Danube and is permanently dredged to provide seagoing navigation to Galati. The Sveti Gheorghe arm (110km and 26m deep), oriented to the southeast, has a sinuous course and carries 22% of the Danube's flow. At sea discharge form the Sacalin islands.

The surface between the Danube arms is protected. The national park includes 21 reservations. Air humidity here records the highest values in Romania, reaching 88%.

The Channel Network in the Danube Delta consists of 45 natural leaks, totaling 1742km and 26 artificial canals with a total length of 1753km. If before 1960 there were 668 lakes, totaling 31,262ha, following the deserts for agricultural arrangements, it fell to 479 lakes (more than 1 ha) and the total area reached 25,666ha.

The specific vegetation of the delta is reed, and the rush mixed with the willow, occupying 78% of the delta's surface. Here is the largest area covered by reed in the world (180,000ha) and here you can see the forests on Letea sand and Caraorman. Delta is the bird of birds!
