The monastery church was built during the reign of Carol I, at the end of the XIX century, when the monastery was being renovated. An interesting fact about the German style building: for the safekeeping of the bell brought from Cozia monastery, the tower was finished only after the bell was put into place.

The French architect Ardre Lecomte du Nouy played an important role in the construction of the buildings. The chapel with ornamental brick walls was an often frequented place by the royal families, but the priests of the monastery also made their praying here. Saint Filoteia 's remnants are kept in this chapel with Byzantine paintings. The relic lies in a gilded silver coffin, covered by a shroud with gold and silver embroidery.

The left hand can be seen under the protection glass over which thousands of people bend each day. The legs are next to the body. At the age of 12 her father cut of her legs with a sickle because he found out that she gave to the needy from the food that was sent to her into the field. Until 1939 the body was in Târnov, at the news of the Turks invading it was sent to Vidin. It stayed there until 1396. Fearing that the Bulgarians might dishonor it, they offered it to Mircea cel Bătrân, who placed the relic into the Curtea de Argeș church where it stayed till 1893, when it was moved to Olari and then to Bucharest. It was brought back once the war was over. It has been in the chapel since 1949.
