Miercurea Ciuc, 1000 szekler Maid day

The One Thousand (szekely) Maid Day took place for the first time in 1931 after the initiative of the named etnographer Domokos Pál Péter.

It was hold that those (szekely) maids who work abroad may forget their national dress, traditions and in the end their language as well. The clambake was banned by the communists but after the overturn of 1989 as the idea became actual again maby more then ever it is organized annualy in July from 1990 on. Unfortunately the picture of 1000 national dress wearing maid of the XXI. misses yet but this doesn't deterr the organizers. Year to year they fight with higher and higher standards to maintain this beautiful tradition the feast of the national dress, dance and songs.
