In the Praid area, the surface extraction of salt has been practiced since ancient times. The town was born after the suppression of the Szekler uprising in 1562, when Prince János Zsigmond established a state monopoly on salt mines and ordered their guard.

The guards and their families have been moved here. For a long time, the town of Praid belonged to Ocna de Sus, becoming independent only in 1669. The underground exploitation of salt began in 1762. Today, hearing the word Praid, everyone thinks of salt and salt, visited in each year of 600,000 tourists and patients.
