Praid, Fortress Rapsone

Going from Praid to Gheorgheni, from the parking lot at kilometer 5, after a steep climb on a 2.5 km dirt road, we reach a saddle from where we can see the Rapsone rock which is said to have once been the Rapsone fortress. On the way we pass the Áprily spring.

In the absence of documented sources, following excavations carried out in 1974, archaeologists found shards of vessels from the 11th-12th centuries. Traces of charred beams were found at the entrance and inside the fortress, which probably resulted from the fire during an attack.

Taking advantage of the strategic and military advantages of the 82X84m fortress, the walls were 2m thick. There was no trace of the building inside the fortress. It is not known when the fortress was destroyed. The wonderful view rewards us for the effort to reach the top of the cliff.
