Călimănești, Cozia monastery, Southern Chapel

Construction of the Southern Chapel, founded by Abbot Amphilochius was completed in 1583, during his first reign Turcitul Mihnea II (1577-1583). It was meant to serve the spiritual needs of the voivodes. Elevated in the southeast corner of the city, the chapel has a trembling plan.

The tower rises above the nave. Access to the narthex is through two doors: one from the abbot and the monks vaulted houses, the other from the royal rooms, which now operates the museum. Above this entrance is the icon of the patron, the only painting left in the 16th century.

Above the entrance from the state is the writing with the name of the founder and the year of the building. The interior painting was made in 1835 by Voicu Zugrav in Pitesti and restored between 1986 and 1987. The five-book iconostasis is carved from pear wood.
