Tourists` guides show an old church in Svinita. It is although in ruins. This church was ruined probably in 67, parts of it being attacked by the time and the changing of weather, parts standing still there against the changes of time. The whole village was moved upwards into the mountains from the river side as the Portile de Fier I. Gate was constructed there. At the back of the church we can see a small lake where there are still visible certain parts of old houses, school and the church itself which was exploded with dynamite. It was constructed in 1741 in Byzantine style, although being decorated and painted long after only in 1848 by Dimitrie Popovici from Oravita.
