Lupșa Monastery is the oldest but also the best preserved wooden church in the Apuseni Mountains. It was founded in 1429, having as a known founder the boyar Stanislav, from the family of Prince Candea of Lupsa.

In the eighteenth century the church was placed on the list of buildings to be demolished by the Habsburg Empire, but after the intervention of the united bishop Peter Paul Aron was not destroyed, declared a monument. In 1820 the church passed to the Greek-Catholic, and in 1948 returned to the Orthodox Church. Around the monastery there were many cells. Here was the only school in the region until 1848 when it was moved to the village. A workshop of church painting also functioned in the monastery.

At first, the church was composed only of the altar and nave, in 1810 adding its narthex and the tower. The ship has a cassette ceiling. The original church was not painted, the icons are original from the 17th century.

Since 1993 the church went under renovation, the interior was plastered and painted. Next to the church, administrative buildings were built.
