Timișoara, House with Atlanti

The house with Atlanti is a historical building, located in the center of the town. Its name comes from the Atlantes columns that can be seen on the façade of the building. It was built in 1812 in a neoclassic style by the dealer Toma Naum Makri, meant to be a rental building, having 40 rooms. After the owner's death the house was inherited by his daughter, married to a Serb. Subsequently the house was donated to the Serb community, then it became the Serb Church's property, since 1966 it belonged to the Romanian State and after '89 it became a private property and was renovated. In the following years it had several inhabitants and many owners, who are in a constant fight for the building. At the court there are thousands of pages; House with Atlanti and two Turkish cannons entombed at the entrance are waiting for their verdict.
