Post Office in Porumbacu de Jos (Unter-Bornbach)

Between 1717 and 1722, the Austrians, renovating the old road, used the valley of the Olt, the "via Carolina" as a trade-route between Oltenia and Transilvania. The first mail-coach was also in service here. The post service used horses, which had to be changed at the stations. This corner house, built in 1756, made home for such a station. In spite of the fact, that the new owners changed the house, its outside form remained the same, and a part of the stables is still visible in the court.
