Mătrici, Szekler gates

The Szekler gates from Mătrici were sculpted by Szekler craftsmen. The streets of the locality are adorned by beautifully carved gates, with or without roof. Most were made by Kajcsa Jakab and Nagy László. Each gate is characterized by various ornaments and specific solutions.

Common motifs are with leaves, bunches of grapes, Eucharistic representations, fir branches, the Sun, heart pierced by an arrow, deer, lily, braid, lion. Sometimes objects characteristic of the owner's profession, the owner's name and the year of realization are represented.
