Documents from 1274 and 1276 reports on this order John at Turda, which in the beginning of the XIII received half of the proceeds of the salt mines. Their church was destroyed by the Tartars and rebuilt around 1400, being completed in the XVth century, probably Augustinian, who had a monastery in Turda. There are no known circumstances of leaving the monastery or church history from this period, but the middle of the sixteenth century and act as a Unitarian church was destroyed by the armies of Basta.

It was probably rebuilt in 1635 with the support of Prince Rákóczi György I. The reformed religion was brought by the newcomers to the village. Given the increasing number of believers Rakoczi donated reformed church. Between 1659 and 1661 the Turks burned the city twice, and in 1706 he made Tiege's soldiers destroy the church. For 100 years the church operated with plank ceiling. In the eighteenth century it was demolished sanctuary walls traces can still be seen today outside the building. During the renovation in 1805 the church received a baroque interior.

The nave of the church had three entrances. The southern frame is the simplest, and the eastern and northern portals are decorated. Inside the church we reach through the door on the east wall. The organ was built in 1812 and was painted in 1822 by Maurice Auguste Dupont, but can not see the original painting. The instrument failed in World War II. The pulpit was built in 1824 by the Cluj sculptor Csűrös Antal. Instead tower collapsed in 1862, was built at present between 1904 and 1906. The construction of 63 m height is a bell cast in 1906.

Also in 1906 the new clock was installed instead of the old one of the eighteenth century, destroyed during the collapse of the tower.
