The salt mountains of Transylvania were formed 20-22 million years ago in the Lower Baden era, when the sea in the Transylvanian basin separated from Tethys and dried. The sediments of the following geological age were deposited, pressing the salt layer that moved to the edges and then upward.

It was among the volcanic rocks, where the pressure was lower. Salt cliffs came to the surface 12,000 years ago, at the end of Pleistocene.

The most beautiful cliffs, which can reach even 15m, can be seen from Lake Paraschiva, next to the Red and Green lakes. Rainwater dissolves them, changes them, but it is a permanent topic for all the photos that reach these lands.
