Bezidu Nou, Lake Bezid

Work on the Bezid Dam began in 1975 but was stopped in 1977, being a small investment, just a lake for flood mitigation near the village of Bezidu Nou. In order to continue the works, the design for a large-scale work was resumed, which also provided for the flooding of the village.

The works were resumed in 1984 and completed in 1989. The dam was built on Cușmed, a tributary of the Tîrnava Mică River. The height of the dam is 28m, the length at the canopy is 670 m, and the width is 5 m. The dam is able to hold 31 million cubic meters of water.

The surface of the lake can reach 285 ha, with a length of 6.54 km and a width of 489 m. The lake is populated with carp, crucian, trout, bream, avat, babusca, perch, amur, novac. Until 2014, the attraction of the lake was the church tower that rose from the lake.

But then the tower gave in to the pressure of the water and collapsed. Now, with admirable ambition, the donors who want to rebuild a tower, instead of the collapsed one, have been activated. According to the project, the construction will be visitable, it will have a glass roof with a viewpoint. It will also be a reminder of the former village of Bezidu Nou, which had 180 houses and two churches. After filling the reservoir, only 12 houses remained.
