Firtos Fortress was built on Firtos Hill, located between Korund, Atia, Inlăceni and Firtușu. Once upon a time there was a Roman camp built to protect the borders and salt routes. The Avars, the rulers of Transylvania between 557 and 895, traded with their neighbors but also with more distant countries. Roman and Byzantine money from trade and tribute were hidden in the 7th century in Firtușu. In 1831 the locals found almost 5,000 gold coins with the faces of the Roman emperors, which they hid so well that after the ensuing investigation, the authorities were able to recover only 60 pieces.

According to the minorities, the castle was built by the Goths. After their departure, the castle estate became the property of wealthy families, including the Firtos clan who built a new fortress. According to church documents, a castle with a monastery was built in the 13th century, of which in 1701 only ruins remain. In 1737 István, the priest of Atia built here a church and a monastery for 6 monks who left the monastery in 1783. Then began its degradation. From the last houses in Corund to the castle take a 1.5 hour walk but watch out for bears!
