In 1873 in this house one of the most important politicians of the interwar period was born, Iuliu Maniu. His father, Ioan Maniu studied legal studies at Pesta and Vienna and he became a famous lawyer, owning a small estate in Bădăcin. The little Iuliu, the second child of Maniu attended the primary school at Blaj, the Calvin High Shcool from Zalău and Faculty of Law at Cluj with the specializations and the doctorate at Budapest and Vienna. He returned back to Transylvania, he became the lawyer of Greco-catholic Metropolitan Blaj and the president of Peasant Party.

He was the deputy of Transylvania in the Budapest Parliament and for many times the Prime Minister of Romania. He founded in Vienna the National Council of Romanians from Transylvania. He participated at the Big Meeting from Alba-Iulia organization from the 1st of December 1918 and he became the president of The Ruling Council of Transylvania and Minister of Interiors. He was the adversary of Ion Antonescu and he fought against the communists. Because of a framing he was arrested in 1947 and was charged by the communist authorities of betrayal of country and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He died in Sighet prison in 1953. His body was thrown into a pit in Cemetery of the Poor.

In the family's cemetery from Bădăcin on a ledger there is the following text: Here the great political man Iuliu Maniu was to rest 1873-1953. After his arrest the parental house became storage of fertilizers, farm headquarters, and camp for children, and since 1986 the estate was leased to the house of children with severe disabilities. Because of advanced degadation of the building the children were moved in new built houses. Although there is a public testament through which Iuliu Maniu left his fortune to the Greco-catholic church, it received only a lease for 50 years for the estate. The building is to be rehabilitated and to host a cultural center and the Iuliu Maniu Museum.
