Retezat Mountains are located in the western of the South Carpathians, being known by varied flora and myriad lakes.

Tăul Agățat a tiny but permanent water mirror, with snow on its banks until the summer, is fed only from the underground springs. It is the second lake in the "lakeside" circuit, the first being the Tăul Porții. Tăul Agățat is at an altitude of 2208 m. A beautiful panorama of the lake with its lakes is opened from the eastern edge of the lake.
