Retezat Mountains are located in the western of the South Carpathians, being known by varied flora and myriad lakes.

The Retezat Peak is the peak of the Retezat Mountains, which, although not the highest, gave the name of the massif.

It has a strange form, a pyramid with a cut tip, visible from the north and south. The flat peak image gave rise to many legends. The Retezat Peak has a height of 2485 m and is located in the northwest of the massif. It is a welcoming peak that reveals wonderful views towards the ridges and the Poarta Bucurei, towards Judele, Custura, Zanoaga peaks, but further on towards Godeanu and Hateg Country. To the NV, at a depth of 400 m, the Ștevia Lake shows its emerald mirror. The following routes lead to Retezat peak:
