Tîrgu Mureș, Fortress Church

The nowadays explorations discovered the walls of an Arpadian age monastery. They opened up the brick-pavement and the bone-house of the monastery as well. There was discovered a XII century house, several objects, human- and animal-bones as well. The burn-hints between the layers indicates that along about 1360 a wooden church burned here. The building of the stone church was started in the XIV.th century by the Ninorites and finished in 1490. Along about 1558 it became property of the reformed church. The Turkish devastation of the 1600's had also totally diminished the church.

Its roof crashed in and the paintings and the organ damaged as well. Between 1685-1693 thanks to count Teleki Mihály the regeneration had started. It got its actual shape between 1785-1791. Its length is of 57 m and its height of 12. The tower that guards the 1600 kg bell has four turrets and it's 66 m height. Its clock was made in 1892 and its organ in 1789. Among its walls there took place 37 Congresses and here was inaugurated as prince in 1707 Rákóczi Ferenc II
