Before the First World War Zalău didn't have Orthodox Church. After war ended and Transylvania united with Romania in Zalău the construction of an orthodox church was wanted. The place was donated by the Romanian State, on the kindergarten field the building was transformed into a parish.

The workings lasted 2 years and displayed according to the plans made by architect Alexandru Floriansics. At bricking worked the 54 existing orthodox families helped by the soldiers and officers from Zalău garrison. In 1940 once with Ardeal's occupation the Horthyst armies banished the priest from the church. During the war the church was very damaged. Its rehabilitation was started in 1945, it has passed through many modifications, renovations. The interior seen today was made in 1985-1990.
